Abortion/Early unprotected sex after abortion

Question
Hi,
I had an abortion done 6 weeks ago due to abnormality of the baby. I was 17 weeks pregnant. I have since not yet menstruated. I have had unprotected sex with my husband on a few occasions. What are the chances that I could be pregnant again and if I am what are the risks involved?

Answer
Hi dear Andrea,
Menstruation patterns after an abortion are irregular due to unbalance
of the hormone concentrations in your blood. It could take a couple of months to become regular again.
Ten days after the abortion you could be pregnant again. So you can figure out if you can be pregnant or not.
If you do not want to become pregnant again you'd better use  contraceptives.
There are no serious risks involved, though it is normally advised to wait for a couple of months after an abortion to give the uterus time
to recover.
Hope this answers your question,
bests,
Dr Shan
