Abortion/Post Abortion
Expert: Shan Yi Sheng - 3/20/2009
QuestionI had a vacumm aspiration abortion on February 28th. I was 7 weeks pregnant. The clinic I went to gave me doxycycline to take following the procedure. The procedure itself was very painful and not something I will ever do again. The first week was horrible for me. I felt terribly nauseated and my stomach hurt non-stop. The second week got a little better, now this week I am not having stomach issues, but light cramping. Directly following the procedure I didn't bleed except for the day it was done. I started birth control the day after the procedure. I get tired more easily than I used to, my breasts are still sore, my stomach seems all puffy and I have a white discharge but no odor. I think this whole experience has put a lot of strain on my body and my body is healing slowly. I feel as though I am finally starting to feel slightly like my old self; I stay very active and since this procedure I have been unable to do much. Could the light cramping I am experiencing lately mean that my period is close? Is what I have described sound to you like a normal bodily reaction after this procedure? I go in for my follow-up tomorrow, they will do blood work to test my hcg levels.
Thank you in advance for your time and response!!!!
AnswerHi dear Anne,
I hope you took a lot of fluid together with the doxy.
Some docs forget to tell you to do so. If you do not drink with this drug, throat and stomachpain is not seldom. Also you should not lay down while taking them. About your next period nothing is sure.
The hormone balance is disturbed and that may take a couple of weeks more. Normally after a vacuume aspiration you start to loose blood at day 3 or 4.
You must be a sensitive woman, but your reaction is not unusual.
Lets be patient and see what's up to morrow !
bye for now,
dr Shan.
