Question
i had a non-surgical abortion on march 31st. i went back the next day to be sure i had passed all the tissue, and i had. i also went back for my check up 3 weeks later & everything was fine. i went to the local health department a week later to get my birth control & they gave me a pregnancy test that was positive. the line was so faint she had to take it outside to see it & they gave me another 1 which had the same results. i did have unprotected sex once between those two visits. is it more likely that i am pregnant again or could it be hormones left from my previous pregnancy?

Answer
Dear Danie,
It would be common and normal to have a faint positive pregnancy test a month after a non-surgical or medical abortion.  I have seen it remain positive for up to 2 months.  The hormones decline very slowly with a medical abortion. Go ahead and start the birth control.  To be 100% sure you did not get pregnant again you can check a pregnancy test again in one week.  As long as the line does not get stronger, you are fine.
