Question
QUESTION: sir i took the medical abortion pills (mifepristone 600mg
+ misoprostol 400microgram next day + misoprostol
400microgram again after 4 days) on 3rd april when i was
one month pregnant.. i had bleeding immediately after
mifepristone but was low to moderate in amount ( 1 pad per
day) and continued for 4 - 5 days.. now i have not recieved
my periods after 1 month.. is this a matter of concern.. pl
advice...

ANSWER: Dear Saun,
It is hard to tell from the amount of bleeding you had whether the medical abortion pills worked.  You may have had a failed medical abortion. This happens about 5% of the time. The best thing to do is to check a pregnancy test.  If it is positive it may be that the pregnancy never ended, and you will need to get an evaluation.  If it is negative, there is nothing to worry about.  As long as you are not pregnant, it can be common and normal to have a delayed menstrual period.
I hope this is helpful,

QUESTION: hey thanku so much for a quick reply doc.. that would
surely be helpful..
i just wanted to let u know that i was not sure whether i
was preg or not.. it was just that my menses got late by 4
days which never happened with me earlier n i also had an
unsafe intercourse.. so thats what propelled me to take the
pills.. can there be a possibility that it was never
pregnancy and now its these medications which are causing a
delay in my normal menses..

Answer
Dear Saun,
Yes, definitely you could have never been pregnant and the medications could be causing the delay.  It would be best for you to take a pregnancy test.  You can get them easily at regular pharmacies.  The urine tests are very accurate. Have you done this?
