AboutPat G Expertise I can help women with the consideration of their decision, and with resources, and I can share my own experiences as the mother of seven and grandmother of six. My approach is to show love and concern, and help women work through the issues, emotional, spiritual, practical. I also help women deal with boyfriend and family issues.
Experience I have been working with women who are considering abortion for several years. I also work with women who have had abortions. Our family has also experienced adoption, so I can talk about that as well.
Education/Credentials I am mostly self-taught. I also studied midwifery for awhile. I have spent years doing research on this topic. In fact, I have been doing research and working in this area since the early 1970's. I have been helping women online for a few years, under the guidance of a woman who was formally training in counseling.
Question i wanted to know how long does it take for an egg to be fertilized?
my boyfriend used condom but the condom slipped and stayed inside of me but luckily it was able to be taken out.we don't know exactly when it slipped out we just know it was during sex and he had ejaculated.
i took pill one of Plan B after 4 and a half hours of having sex.
will the pill be more effective?
is it possible that fertilization happened during those 4 and a half hours?
and i should be getting my period in the next 5 days.
Answer Hi, jasmine,
The sperm penetrates the egg fairly quickly. It takes some time for the sperm to swim to the egg. Once the sperm is inside the egg, major reorganization of the material inside occurs. The total process takes several hours as I understand it. That said, once the sperm penetrates the egg, anything that stops the process at that point is abortifacient. That is to say, it produces a very early abortion.
What I don't understand is why you took Plan B when you don't even know if you "need" it or not. It's a powerful dose of hormones, and this disrupts the delicate balance of a woman's hormones.
When you are asking "will the pill be more effective?" do you mean the birth control pill? Actually Plan B is a very heavy dose of birth control. The ordinary birth control pill has to be taken in advance.
As you have learned, condoms don't work. This is one of several ways they can fail.
If you don't want to be pregnant right now, it is best not to take the chance in the first place. Learn other ways to express affection.
If you are pregnant, please don't hurt yourself. Don't get an abortion. Abortions are dangerous. If you need resources to deal with the situation, let me know, and I can tell you where to get them.
Now the good news is that if your period is due in the next five days, you probably weren't fertile. Ovulation occurs about 14 days before the onset of a woman's period. A woman can be fertile for three days on either side. So you are probably OK. But you can learn to tell when you are fertile. You cannot be using hormones (which means it won't work so soon after Plan B), and you have to chart faithfully. Once the fertile time is past, then having sex wouldn't be very risky. You can learn more by going here:
But you really should ask yourself some questions about your lifestyle and what you ultimately want out of life. What are your goals? Will a pregnancy interfere? (Maybe not, actually). Do you really want to run the risk of having an abortion? It can seriously injure you, and some of the injuries last for a very long time. It can kill you. Does your boyfriend truly cherish you, or is he just using you for personal pleasure? Will he stick by you if you do become pregnant? Some guys don't even know the answer for themselves. Will he cherish your baby? Guys also don't accept a pregnancy as soon as women do. They won't usually accept and acknowledge it until the second trimester, well after most abortions are done. This is because they need to experience some evidence: an ultrasound, hearing a heartbeat, seeing changes in the mother's body, feeling movement. And almost all of this isn't obvious until the second trimester. But I recommend you have a serious talk with him. Ask him if he is willing to protect you and stand by you. Will he cherish you? Is he someone you might want to marry someday?
Please take care of yourself. Let me know what happens.
