Question
QUESTION: i had an abortion 1 week ago 2day 1 was 7 weeks pregnant and i still havent started bleeding, only had abit of discharge. is this normal? when will i start bleeding?

ANSWER: Hi, kristy,

From what you are telling me, I assume you had a pill abortion. However, the pill abortion doesn't work after awhile, and 7 weeks is right on the edge of when it no longer works. If you haven't been bleeding by now, that's the only conclusion I can come to.

These abortions are dangerous. The pills given the second time around can kill a woman in a matter of hours. Surgical abortions are also very dangerous. They can kill or seriously injure a woman. You really deserve better. If you need some help, you can get it. But you don't have to risk your life like that. Please let me know what kind of help you might need, and I can point you to some resources.

Please go see a new doctor and see whether or not the situation is still normal. Having an abortion is not normal. If everything is normal, your wisest course is to continue with the pregnancy. Take one day at a time. If you are not in a position to raise a child, you can choose adoption, but perhaps with help, you can make it.

Please don't take this chance; take care of yourself and stay safe!

I will pray for you.

Answer
Hi, kristy,

I guess I didn't directly answer the question you asked, and I apologize. The truth is, nobody can answer that question over the internet, not even a doctor. You will need to see a doctor so he can determine what is happening. You may still be pregnant. You were far enough along that is a real possibility. If the abortion had any effect on you, it's still not clear just when bleeding would start. But you really need to go to a doctor to get an answer. Go to someone other than the person who provided the abortion.

Please let me know what you find out, and take care.

Expertise

I can help women with the consideration of their decision, and with resources, and I can share my own experiences as the mother of seven and grandmother of eleven. My approach is to show love and concern, and help women work through the issues, emotional, spiritual, practical. I also help women deal with boyfriend and family issues. I am not a doctor, but I have done extensive medical research, so I may be able to help with information. I am female. When you write, if you are or were pregnant, please tell me how far along you were or are, and if you have had an abortion, please tell me what kind. Thank you.

Experience

I have been working with women who are considering abortion for several years. I also work with women who have had abortions. Our family has also experienced adoption, so I can talk about that as well.

Education/Credentials
I am mostly self-taught. I also studied midwifery for awhile. I have spent years doing research on this topic. In fact, I have been doing research and working in this area since the early 1970's. I have been helping women online for a few years, under the guidance of a woman who was formally training in counseling.
