Abortion/miscarriage

Question
Hi, I don't know if you can help me. On Thursday I suffered a miscarriage. I was 13 weeks along but the fetus had stopped growing at 7 weeks and there was no heartbeat. On Thursday (7/23) I had started heavy bleeding. my OB told me this was expected; howevr I decided to go to the hospital for a D&C, only to end up expelling everything naturally while waiting in the ER. After the tissues and clots passed, I was put on an IV with a medicine to induce cramping and contracting. About an hour later I was sent for an ultrasound, where they checked to see if everything was gone. They did a regular u/s as well as a transvaginal one. Within two hours I was feeling fine and they discharged me.
Since I came home on thursday evening, i've had very light bleeding. This morning (saturday 7/25) i took a shower and since then I've had some mild cramping and a heavier flow than before...though not that heavy.I am diabetic, type2 and on insulin, i dont know if that has anything to do with it. Also, i have been advised by many (not health professionals) to rest, but I feel fine so I am going about doing my regular chores.... i am just concerned...

Answer
Hi, S H,

First, please know I am sorry for your loss. Please allow yourself to grieve. Some people may not understand, but I do.

If I were you, I'd get an answer from the doctor about that. As long as you are still bleeding, there is always the possibility of hemorrhage, and exercise (including housework) can set it off. I may be mistaken, but if diabetes causes problems with blood clotting, it could aggravate it. Housework causes exercise of the abdominal muscles, which will squeeze your uterus.

I would like to recommend you try to cure your diabetes. Here are some links that contain some vital information:

Go to this last one right away. He has information on diabetes right on the front page.

A little extra rest won't hurt you, and the house isn't nearly as important as you are. Please take care of yourself.

Expertise

I can help women with the consideration of their decision, and with resources, and I can share my own experiences as the mother of seven and grandmother of eleven. My approach is to show love and concern, and help women work through the issues, emotional, spiritual, practical. I also help women deal with boyfriend and family issues. I am not a doctor, but I have done extensive medical research, so I may be able to help with information. I am female. When you write, if you are or were pregnant, please tell me how far along you were or are, and if you have had an abortion, please tell me what kind. Thank you.

Experience

I have been working with women who are considering abortion for several years. I also work with women who have had abortions. Our family has also experienced adoption, so I can talk about that as well.

Education/Credentials
I am mostly self-taught. I also studied midwifery for awhile. I have spent years doing research on this topic. In fact, I have been doing research and working in this area since the early 1970's. I have been helping women online for a few years, under the guidance of a woman who was formally training in counseling.
