Question
My wife is being admnistered MTP kit by an MD Gynaec. She has been give two tabs of Mifepristone and doctor has asked to visit again tomorrow for administration of Misoprostol. Need to know how safe is this procedure of MTP. Please reply soon.

Answer
Hi, PS,

This is NOT SAFE AT ALL! Three are women in India bleeding to death from Misoprostol! The manufacturer says a pregnant woman should NEVER take it! It can kill a woman within hours. I am absolutely appalled that doctors are handing out this medication. Misoprostol can cause toxic shock syndrome if administered vaginally, and this kills within hours. It can also cause contractions so strong they can rupture a woman's uterus. The pharmaceutical house, Cipla, that is distributing this kit has absolutely no conscience. I wrote to them, but they never responded. Doctors may think they can rely on the company because it's well established. They ought to read the literature on Misoprostol!

How far along was/is she?

Mifepristone won't even work unless a woman is in a very narrow span of time in her pregnancy. If she is within that time period, then a good doctor will administer progesterone treatments throughout her pregnancy to protect the baby. So please take her to a different doctor. I am hoping she hasn't started this, but if she has, this is a remedy.

If she starts to hemorrhage she should eat food with plenty of cayenne (hot pepper) or take it in capsules. Otherwise, she should go to the emergency room immediately. Sometimes the only remedy is hysterectomy.

If you need help with resources because of her pregnancy, please let me know. I have information on resources in India.

Please don't let her risk her life like this! She is too precious, and she deserves better. Let me know how she does.

Expertise

I can help women with the consideration of their decision, and with resources, and I can share my own experiences as the mother of seven and grandmother of eleven. My approach is to show love and concern, and help women work through the issues, emotional, spiritual, practical. I also help women deal with boyfriend and family issues. I am not a doctor, but I have done extensive medical research, so I may be able to help with information. I am female. When you write, if you are or were pregnant, please tell me how far along you were or are, and if you have had an abortion, please tell me what kind. Thank you.

Experience

I have been working with women who are considering abortion for several years. I also work with women who have had abortions. Our family has also experienced adoption, so I can talk about that as well.

Education/Credentials
I am mostly self-taught. I also studied midwifery for awhile. I have spent years doing research on this topic. In fact, I have been doing research and working in this area since the early 1970's. I have been helping women online for a few years, under the guidance of a woman who was formally training in counseling.
