Question
I am in the United States

I had my last period on 7/1 and i did two in home pregnancy tests after missing my period and they both came back positive then i went into a doctor's office for a test which came back positive as well with the confirmation of being 5 weeks pregnant but i have been bleeding intermittently over the past few days and i am wondering if i can still take the pill and if there will be any other effects and without the hustle of an ultrasound and so on in one of your offices.

Answer
Dear Cris,
From your description of bleeding early in a pregnancy, it is possible that you are having a miscarriage or spontaneous abortion.  You should definitely complete an ultrasound to determine whether there is a viable pregnancy.  If the pregnancy is not developing, you will not need to terminate the pregnancy.  Depending on what the ultrasound shows, it could pass naturally on its own.  There is more information on our website at: earlyabortionoptions.com the tab on miscarriage. If you are in New York City, we'd be glad to set up an appointment to see you.
I hope this is helpful,
Doctor Joan
