i had an abortion 3months and 1 week ago.i had sex with my boyfrend after 1month abortion..and now i have a lot of discharge and the doc said its infection coz of my abortion..how did i get that infection from abortion?and a bit smelly of discharge..i hope u will answer my question..tnx

A discharge with a funny smell or odor is common and normal, and not caused by the abortion.  This type of infection is called bacterial vaginosis, and is from an overgrowth of NORMAL bacteria in the vagina. You do not get it from sex.  Bacteria and yeast live normally in the vagina and this is healthy.  Sometimes the environment in the vagina gets a little out of balance, and there can either be an overgrowth of yeast (causes itching and white discharge) or an overgrowth of bacteria (causes a foul odor).  Both infections are completely harmless, and often don't need to be treated, since the body will usually go back into balance. However, if the symptoms persist there are medications that can help get rid of the symptoms. Bacterial vaginosis is usually treated with Flagyl, metrogel, or clindamycin (pills or cream) and Yeast is usually treated with over the counter creams or Diflucan (pill).  

The discharge you experienced was not "caused" by the abortion, but rather the pregnancy. Pregnancy causes a change in the pH of the vagina so that either bacteria or yeast can overgrow. In fact, usually yeast infections or bacterial vaginosis get better once an abortion is completed. Sometimes, as in your case, the discharge is persistent, and you need to take medications to get back in balance. There is absolutely nothing for you to be concerned about. You will go back to normal, and there is no risk for future pregnancies.
