Question
QUESTION: Hi dr, I found out I was 2-3weeks pregnant on the 7th of sept, did not want to go through with the pregnancy and asked my gynie to prescribe me something, she gave my 4 tablets of misoprostol wich I did take and nothing happened not even cramps, Then she gave me 6 more,I took 3 orally and still nothing its been 8 hours since I took the 3 still got 3 left but I'm not sure if I should take it what if it does'nt work also. If I continue with the pregnancy and don't start to bleed will I have a abnormal baby??

ANSWER: Hi Maritza,

Some women do not bleed straight away and it could take up to 72 hours for the bleeding to start so do not worry just yet. If you don't start bleeding within 72 hours take the extra 3 pills. There is a chance the baby could be born with abnormalities but could also be perfectly fine. Good luck!

QUESTION: Thank you dr, I took the other 3 pills last night and woke up this mornig still nothing,my gynie said that its maybe because I'm very early in the pregnancy and should wait until next week to take another dose.I do not want to take more but after 8(200) pills I am scared for a abnormal baby,is there a chance that the pills didnt have such a bad effect on the growing embrio as its only 2weeks old?will pregnancy supplements work to promote in healthy growth maybe? I regret taking the meds and do not want to go on with it if there is a chance in having a normal baby.As I think the embrio grows very fast and the pills don't stay in the blood for that long to affect the rest of the development? thank you so much for your advise dr appreciate it..

Answer
Hi Maritza,

Continued pregnancies are more common in very early abortions. An ultrasound will reveal if the pregnancy is viable or not. I cannot be sure if the baby will be born with abnormalities or not. It is possible but is less likely because the dosage is lower as long as you do not take anymore pills.
