Question
Hello,
I would like to ask something about my period. Ive had
an abortion on SEPT 15 and my first period after the
abortion is on 23 OCT. Now its not here yet, its been 34
days since my first period after the abortion. I am sort of
worried.
My abortion was a surgical one, i think. I was 9weeks at
that time.
But i know it took around 20 mins but i was put under a
general one. So i woke up 45 mins after i went in.
Is this normal?
I took a Pregnancy test 2 days ago and it was negative.

Answer
Hello, Sara,

If they put you to sleep and you were 9 weeks, they did a surgical abortion. Having an abortion is not normal, but waking up sometime later IS to be expected.

Taking a look at what you told me, you went for five weeks for your first period after abortion. And it's about five weeks since your first period. Abortion disrupts a woman's hormones, so I don't find any of this surprising.

If you have been having sex, you should test for pregnancy again in a week. If you are not married, you shouldn't be having sex. Getting pregnant is too risky in your country. And having repeat abortions is dangerous to your life and health, and the health of your future children. Surgical abortions can cause serious birth defects in future children.

If you are pregnant again, I recommend you find a way to visit a country where you will be safe, until you have your baby, and then place your baby for adoption. If you are married, accept your baby. Don't risk your life anymore. You deserve better.

Please keep in touch and let me know how you do. Feel free to ask any other questions. Take care.

I have been working with women who are considering abortion for several years. I also work with women who have had abortions. Our family has also experienced adoption, so I can talk about that as well.

I have been helping women online for a few years, under the guidance of a woman who was formally training in counseling.
