Question
Its been 3 weeks and I'm still lightly bleeding..is this normal?can it b stopped?I'm worried

Answer
Hello, kim,

Your question was in the question pool rather than addressed specifically to me, and I just saw it.

Are you still bleeding?

Abortion isn't normal, so speaking about what is normal afterwards doesn't make a lot of sense. Bleeding for a prolonged period after abortion is very common, however. Unless it becomes excessive, you'll just have to wait for it to stop. If it does become heavy, you may need medical attention. If you had a pill abortion, please know that this is also common. Heavy bleeding after a surgical abortion is definitely a danger signal, and you should get immediate attention. If you do start bleeding heavily, try to get some cayenne (red hot pepper) into your body. This may help. Whether it will stop slight bleeding, I can't say. You can get this either through supplements, or by eating spicy food with red hot pepper in it. If at some point you still have concerns, you can go see the doctor. Don't go to the person who provided the abortion; find someone else.

Please take care of yourself and try not to worry. Let me know if you continue to have problems, and let me know how you do.

Expertise

I can help women with the consideration of their decision, and with resources, and I can share my own experiences as the mother of seven and grandmother of eleven. My approach is to show love and concern, and help women work through the issues, emotional, spiritual, practical. I also help women deal with boyfriend and family issues. I am not a doctor, but I have done extensive medical research, so I may be able to help with information. I am female. When you write, if you are or were pregnant, please tell me how far along you were or are, and if you have had an abortion, please tell me what kind. Thank you.

Experience

I have been working with women who are considering abortion for several years. I also work with women who have had abortions. Our family has also experienced adoption, so I can talk about that as well.

Education/Credentials
I am mostly self-taught. I also studied midwifery for awhile. I have spent years doing research on this topic. In fact, I have been doing research and working in this area since the early 1970's. I have been helping women online for a few years, under the guidance of a woman who was formally training in counseling.
