Question
i had a medical abortion on 3/6/2010 at 6 weeks pregant is it normal for me to still bleed heavy and passing blood clots?

Answer
Hello, jeanette,

Having an abortion isn't normal, and neither are any of the consequences. It makes more sense to speak of what is common.

Unfortunately the term "medical abortion" is ambiguous. So I will address both common kinds of abortion. If you had a surgical abortion, then it is not common to be bleeding and passing clots nearly a week later. It may indicate they injured you, above and beyond the normal injury that is required to do the abortion in the first place. If you had a pill abortion, then it would be more likely that you would still be bleeding and passing clots.

In either case, that kind of bleeding is dangerous. Too many women are bleeding to death after abortion. You need to make sure that doesn't happen to you, so you really need to see a doctor. Don't go back to whoever provided the abortion. Go to someone else. The people who provided the abortion won't want to admit that they hurt you in any way.

In the meantime, try to get some cayenne into your body. Cayenne is red hot peppers, and you can get it either by eating spicy foods that have it, or by taking supplements. You can get these at the health food store.

Please take care of yourself. Abortion is always dangerous. Please don't take any more chances. Let me know how you do.

Expertise

I can help women with the consideration of their decision, and with resources, and I can share my own experiences as the mother of seven and grandmother of eleven. My approach is to show love and concern, and help women work through the issues, emotional, spiritual, practical. I also help women deal with boyfriend and family issues. I am not a doctor, but I have done extensive medical research, so I may be able to help with information. I am female. When you write, if you are or were pregnant, please tell me how far along you were or are, and if you have had an abortion, please tell me what kind. Thank you.

Experience

I have been working with women who are considering abortion for several years. I also work with women who have had abortions. Our family has also experienced adoption, so I can talk about that as well.

Education/Credentials
I am mostly self-taught. I also studied midwifery for awhile. I have spent years doing research on this topic. In fact, I have been doing research and working in this area since the early 1970's. I have been helping women online for a few years, under the guidance of a woman who was formally training in counseling.
