Question
I had an abortion done three weeks ago. The bleeding had stopped, the pregnancy test was negative, however I had sex with a condom and took two birth control pills the following day. I had sex  with a condom two days later and found I had some terrible cramps. Two days later I had some bleeding that i thought was my period, it lasted for less than one night, there was none the following day. Could you please explain when my normal period will return and if there is a need for a doctor's visit. I feel fine, just that my period has not returned fully.

Answer
Hi Andrea,
about half of the questions on this forum are about your "problem".
After an abortion pregnancy hormones tend to stay in your body for a prolonged period.
This leads to irregularity, both in bleeding patterns and periods.
So nothing can be said about "safe"-days. So please take extra care and do not have
unprotected sex unless you want a baby.
So, no worry !
Bests,
dr Shan
