Abortion/Pregnancy after an abortion
Expert: Pat G - 7/17/2010
QuestionQUESTION: I've had a abortion April 23, 2010 I was 1 month and 3 weeks pregnant. Is it possible to still be pregnant after the abortion and still have your period?
ANSWER: Hello, Taylor,
It is possible to still be pregnant after an abortion. If you had a pill abortion, it is even likely, given how far along you were. In a surgical abortion, they sometimes miss the baby, and sometimes a woman is carrying twins, and they miss one of them. Bleeding after an abortion is not that uncommon, either. It may or may not be your period. You can have a period while you are pregnant. It's not common, but it does happen.
It sounds like you need to see a decent doctor. Abortionists have poor medical judgment, and they won't want to admit things didn't go as planned. You can find a decent doctor by going to an organization in your area that helps pregnant women. They have doctors available to help with various things. To find an organization near you, please go to this web site:

Anything the abortionist is likely to do to try to straighten out your situation is most likely only going to make things worse. So please go to a decent doctor, and then let me know what you find out. Please take care of yourself, and don't take any more chances.

QUESTION: How do you know whether your baby is still living or not, is it supposed to move everyday, or not? I've had an abortion and have not been back to the doctor since I went once and they were waitin on my period to come and it came a few weeks after but I'm still eating alot, still sleepind but not as much as I was, and my breast are not sore anymore. My stomach is still kind of hard and on one side of it theres a little hump sticking out and it has not moved in three days. I had the abortion April 23, 2010. Do you think I'm still pregnant? Every test I take says negative but I think I am!
ANSWER: Hello, Taylor,
You would be three months and two weeks now if you were still pregnant. Some women feel movement that early, and some don't. It depends on how much fat is in her belly. If not much, she may likely feel movement by now. For other women, it might take a couple more weeks. By now, a woman's breasts are also unlikely to be sore.
I don't know what a lump that doesn't move for three days be. You can try pushing on it gently. If your baby is alive, and it's part of his or her body, she will move it.
If the tests say you're not pregnant, then it is likely you aren't. Your uterus could be hard for another reason. In that case, you should have it checked out. I haven't heard of a pill abortion causing a hard uterus, so if that happened, I would want to know about it. At 1 month and 3 weeks, you would be very much at the end of the range when a pill abortion even works. It's more difficult for me to tell you what is going on since I still don't know what kind of abortion you had.
We can talk about it some more if you tell me what kind of abortion you had, and whether you are counting from your last menstrual period or the date you probably conceived, and I would like to hear what you found out if you go to the doctor. Please take care.

QUESTION: The first time I got pregnant I got pregnant March 9, 2010, and I had the abortion April 23, 2010. My last period at that time was Feb. 18, 2010. Then like i started back having my periods. Last time I had sex was May 12, 2010. So really I'm not sure whether its an old pregnancy or new one! Cause Im constanly eating and sleeping, but my breast are not tender. My stomach is still hard though and it has the little lump and it appeared one night I felt something moving and all of a sudden the little hump came. IT has not moved in going on 3 days!
AnswerHello, Taylor,
I saw the picture in the other message. That was very helpful.
You'd be 4 months and a week now; certainly by now, you should feel movement if you are still pregnant. Judging by what I can see of your arm, it's not obesity. On the other hand, your belly button isn't sticking out. If you were pregnant, it should be. Also, are your breasts significantly larger than they had been before?
I think you need to see a doctor. Seriously. If you are short of money for a visit to the doctor, try the organization I told you about, or go to the emergency room. I don't know what the problem is, but it could be serious, and it needs to be taken care of. Please go right away, and let me know what you find out. You'll be in my prayers.
