Hi Dr, I wondered if you could kindly answer a few questions for me?

I have previously asked you a few questions before but as im sure you can see i am very anxious.  I had a surgical abortion on 22/6/10 i was 8 weeks 4 days preg.  9 days later i returned to the clinic and had an ultrasound the nurse said that the uterus was empty no pregnancy sac and no pregnancy.  The nurse also completed a physical exam and stated that my uterus had returned to its normal size and had moved back down again.  

My  first question is; how reliable would the ultrasound be 9 days after the surgical abortion in showing that the abortion was successful ie no continued pregnancy or products of conception left over)?  

My second question is; I am concerned because my breasts are sore this had subsided a bit but has returned a few days ago.  I started the contraceptive pill the day of the abortion so could my sore breasts be just from the contraceptive pill?

I am sure that you can see that i am very anxious, I feel that the clinic that i attended really didnt tell me much information.

Hi Angie again,

Its is very well possible to control the emptiness of the uterus after a surgical abortion; especially by an experienced nurse.

Pregnancy hormones leave the blood slowly so breast can stay , or become sore again.
No reason for any fears.
When you finish the strip a period will follow. Very good that you started at once after the abortion.
But take care the first month the pill is not absolutely reliable.
