Question
Hi, I am 5 weeks post abortion. I passed very little blood after a 7wk pregnancy.......following a surgical procedure and I did get a light cycle about 2 weeks after the procedure. I'm concerned now though because at five weeks post abortion I have period like cramps with only a bloody mucous streak.....please advise

Answer
Hello, kela,

Your body's hormones may not be back to the pre-pregnant state yet. Have you taken a pregnancy test? With a surgical procedure, most women don't pass much blood. The cramps could mean any number of things. Until your body's hormones settle down, you can have some pretty erratic experiences. Do you still have any symptoms of pregnancy?

If you go several more weeks and things aren't as they should be, I recommend you go to a doctor. When you do, do NOT go back to the person who did the abortion. Find someone else. Abortionists will rarely admit that they harmed a woman in any way. You will need to go to a doctor who doesn't believe in abortion. The problem is that some of these doctors not only ignore medical ethics, but they have poor medical judgment as a result. So you need to go to someone you can trust.

About the best you can do right now is hang in there. If you want to test for pregnancy on a weekly basis, you can do this, and see if the test shows fainter over time. And there is always the possibility the abortionist missed the baby as well. I wouldn't be able to tell you any more than this over the internet, and neither would anyone else. If you continue to have a problem, or just want to talk to me, feel free to write any time. Keep in touch and let me know how you do. Whatever you do, don't take such a risk with your life in the future. It's not worth it. You deserve better. Take care.

Expertise

I can help women with the consideration of their decision, and with resources, and I can share my own experiences as the mother of seven and grandmother of eleven. My approach is to show love and concern, and help women work through the issues, emotional, spiritual, practical. I also help women deal with boyfriend and family issues. I am not a doctor, but I have done extensive medical research, so I may be able to help with information. I am female. When you write, if you are or were pregnant, please tell me how far along you were or are, and if you have had an abortion, please tell me what kind. Thank you.

Experience

I have been working with women who are considering abortion for several years. I also work with women who have had abortions. Our family has also experienced adoption, so I can talk about that as well.

Education/Credentials
I am mostly self-taught. I also studied midwifery for awhile. I have spent years doing research on this topic. In fact, I have been doing research and working in this area since the early 1970's. I have been helping women online for a few years, under the guidance of a woman who was formally training in counseling.
