Hi,
I had an aspiration abortion on the 8th of Jan. I started the pill on the 9th and had unprotected sex on the 11 and have continued my birth control since then...Is it possible that I can be pregnant again? I have had positive pregnancy tests, but I know this is normal for up to 2 weeks or more after the abortion. I was about 9 weeks along at the time of the abortion. My last period was the 9th of November. Thank you for your time.
We advise our patients to use condoms for 2 weeks after an aspiration procedure. You can get pregnant within the first 2 days. Unfortunately we have had patients experience this. The only way to diagnose it is to get an ultrasound if you miss your period. The test can be faint positive during the first 4 weeks. If it is very positive after that then it is a new pregnancy.
