Question
My wife has had 3 abortions and 1 miscarrage in the past 8 years. She is now 29 years old. She is now pregnant with our first child together, we just found out a couple days ago and we are going to keep it. What is the percentage that we are going to have complications with this pregnancy such as birth defects, development rate, premature birth, miscarrages, or anything else that may come up. And is there anything we can do to lower that rate such as eating specific foods (super foods) or staying away from specific foods or drinks??

Answer

Having abortions does not cause birth defects.  She should start prenatal care as soon as possible. She As long as she is healthy there should not be a problem.  She should have an ultrasound for dating the pregnancy.  Her Obstetrician will take a good history and perform an exam.  She will get blood test and genetic testing offered.
