Abortion/No Period After Abortion/ Pregnant Again?

Question
I found out I was pregnant at 12 weeks into the pregnancy and due to unfortunate circumstances, I had an abortion almost 3 weeks later on November 19th. Everything went okay with the procedure and I started taking birthcontrol pills but that only lasted about 3 days. My husband and I started having unprotected sex 2 weeks after the procedure and have been doing so regularly. I took a pregnancy test last week and it was negative but my period still isn't here. Is that normal? I do want to have a baby but wasn't expecting it to happen so soon after. Is that possible and if so, why was the test negative?

Answer
It can take up to 8 weeks for your period to return.  It sounds like you do want to be pregnant your stopped the pill and are having unprotected sex.  Right now you are not pregnant.  However, you could be and the hormone level is not high enough to be detected.  You can get pregnant within two weeks after any abortion.
