Question
is it normal to have breastmilk even after having a suspected successful medical abortion? (i haven't had an ultrasound yet but based on my discharges i think im really emptying out) i was just a little over 9weeks pregnant and i just discovered a week after my abortion that my breast are leaking. If it's normal, what else should i expect after having the abortion?

Answer
Hello, Caroline,

Having an abortion is not normal, and neither is anything that happens afterwards. If you were already 9 weeks, there is a chance the pill abortion didn't work anyway. You wouldn't normally expect breasts to leak at only 9 weeks. I won't say it is impossible, but normally, a woman will start to produce breast milk at the earliest, in the second trimester. As long as your breasts don't become engorged, don't do anything about it. You should go ahead and get your examination. If you are still pregnant, you need to leave your body alone. Abortion is dangerous and can kill you or kill or harm your future children. You are too far along to try with pills again.

If your breasts do start to give you trouble, you can milk them just enough to relieve them, but no more. You can also massage them, and this may help. You can put jojoba oil on them. Get pure jojoba oil, not something that just has jojoba oil in it.

If you are still pregnant, and need help, let me know. There are organizations in the Philippines that will help you. I can get that information for you. Let me know what part of the Philippines you live in. Please take care of yourself, and don't risk your life anymore. Keep in touch.

I can help women with the consideration of their decision, and with resources, and I can share my own experiences as the mother of seven and grandmother of eleven. My approach is to show love and concern, and help women work through the issues, emotional, spiritual, practical. I also help women deal with boyfriend and family issues. I am not a doctor, but I have done extensive medical research, so I may be able to help with information. I am female. When you write, if you are or were pregnant, please tell me how far along you were or are, and if you have had an abortion, please tell me what kind. Thank you.

Experience

I have been working with women who are considering abortion for several years. I also work with women who have had abortions. Our family has also experienced adoption, so I can talk about that as well.

Education/Credentials
I am mostly self-taught. I also studied midwifery for awhile. I have spent years doing research on this topic. In fact, I have been doing research and working in this area since the early 1970's. I have been helping women online for a few years, under the guidance of a woman who was formally training in counseling.
