Abortion/Abortion Pill

Question

Unknown Mass
On December 29, 2010, I found out I was pregnant. Long story short opted for the abortion pill. After I took the pills the first night, I had very light brown discharge and light cramping. Second night, about 4 hours after inserting the pills I woke up with severe abdominal pain. However no bleeding. So I went to my follow up appointment. Sonogram showed nothing however the urine test said i was still pregnant. Had a pelvic exam and his conclusion was that I miscarried.

On Thursday, Feb 3, 2011, I started what I thought was my period. Heavier bleeding than normal and shaper cramps. Today, Saturday, Feb 5, 2011, I had severe cramps, borderline unbearable and extremely heavy bleeding. This went on for hours until it subsided. After the pain subsided I coughed and felt something strange. When I went to the bathroom this mass fell out of me. About the size of a golfball. Multi Colored, Dark red, fatty looking tissue, there is something hard inside of it. What happened to me?

Answer
Hello, Elizabeth,

It sounds like you had what doctors call a "missed abortion". This is when a woman's baby dies, but stays in the uterus for awhile. Sonograms aren't that good, especially in the early weeks. So the mere fact it didn't show anything doesn't mean much. The size of the mass in the photo is consistent with the age during which the pills produce abortion. Your experiencing such heavy cramps is also common. Pregnancy hormones last for awhile, so that also doesn't surprise me.

These pills are dangerous and can kill a woman. Putting them into the vagina can cause a woman to develop toxic shock syndrome. This can kill a woman within hours. You would probably no longer be at risk from this, but you still need to watch the bleeding. A woman can bleed to death after taking these pills. The pills are being given off label. The manufacturer doesn't want the legal liability if they kill a woman. You need to stay away from them in the future.

If you start to bleed again, I recommend you get some cayenne into your body. You can get this either as a supplement, or as red hot peppers in food. Get some regularly until the bleeding is finished for good. At that point, you may have to go to the doctor.

All we can do at this point is hope for the best. Let me know if you have any other questions, and please let me know how you do. Stay safe!
