Question
Hi,
I had an abortion on 02/08/11. I had PROTECTED sex once 5days later. Its been now about close to 2wks and I feel maybe I got pregnant. I am having symptoms... burping, urinating more than usual, a little moody. I have been drinking alot of water. But I dnt think thats the case. I took a test 2days ago but it came out neg. But its probably too soon to come out on the test right? What can this mean?

Answer

The negative pregnancy test is reassuring for now but you need to repeat the test in at least 2 weeks to be sure.  You can ovulate within a few days of a surgical procedure.  We have had patient become pregnant within 2 - 7 days after the procedure. if you are pregnant by my calculation, you are only 2 weeks and too early for most pregnancy test to detect any rise in the hormone level. That is why it is recommended to use condoms for 2 weeks by some facilities and up to 6 weeks by other facilities.
If you are not pregnant, you should start a reliable form of contraception. In 2 weeks, you would be almost 4 weeks and most test can detect a rise in the hormone level.
