Question
Hi,
I have had 4 abortions in the past. They were all done at a very clean, professional, licensed and nurturing clinic. I went to the same clinic each time. Each time I had a vacuum aspiration surgical procedure. They were all done between the seventh and eighth week of pregnancy. My first was done October 2005. Second April 2006. Third march 2009. And last October 2010. I am not proud of my decisions but I also felt it was the right decision at the time. Birth control has failed me and also being irresponsible. I am writing because I am now pregnant for the fifth time and I am 8 weeks. I'm 25 and want to keep this baby. I never had any complications and was told that my cervix always healed properly. I just want to make sure that my body us physically able to complete a full term pregnancy. I'm just worried. I did wait 4 months before getting pregnant this last time. Should I be concerned? So far my obgyn says everything looks great. Thank you

Answer
You should not worry.  As long as you have good prenatal care, you should be fine. Abortion does not affect a pregnancy.  Loss of a pregnancy is usually due to a genetic abnormality that causes the pregnancy not to be viable.  Abortion does not cause any fetal abnormalities.
