Question
Hello Dcotor,

My LMP date is 09 Apr 2011. On 23 Apr 2011, I and my boyfriend had unprotected intercourse. On 27 Apr 2011, I had an accident and got abrasions on my legs and fractured my foot. So, I was put on Amoxycilin, Combiflam and omeprazoole (empty stomach) for a week and on Ziffi 200 (Cefixime) and Bedanzine forte/Lyser forte (Serratiopeptidase) for 10 days. I discontinued the medications on 15 May 2011. My period occurs after 30-31 days of the LMP date. But till this date, í.e. 18 May 2011, I have not had my period. Could you kindly advice if it could be the effect of antibiotics or is it that I might have conceived? In case I have conceived, since I don't wish to continue it, could you advise me what should I do?

Thank you so much.

Regards,

Aaila

Answer
Hello.

Is it Aalia or Aaila?

Please know I am not a doctor. I am a medical researcher.

You may well have been fertile on April 23. If you have a normal length period, that would be highly likely. With a period which tends to occur at 30 to 31 days, it is less likely you were fertile on the 23rd, but not impossible.

You can test for pregnancy at this point. If the test is negative, test again in a week. If it's still negative, I think you're probably in the clear.

I won't help you end your pregnancy. All forms of abortion are very dangerous and can kill you. They can also hurt your future children. There are a lot of women who are buying pills which are packaged by a local pharmaceutical company. These kits are VERY DANGEROUS, and they should NOT be used. About 10,000 women are bleeding to death in India every after taking these pills. They can also cause a nasty infection that will kill a woman within hours. I tried to write about this to the company, and they ignored me. They don't care. They're making a lot of money, and they think women should stop having babies. A dead woman is one less mother. You really deserve better.

I realize that there are many women who face difficulties as a result of pregnancy. But there are other answers. I'm not overwhelmed with the resources available in India, but they are available. You should ask around at the various churches and see if there are any organizations in your area that can help you. If you are not in a position to raise a child, the safest thing you can do for yourself is to have the child and put him or her up for adoption. It's not an easy choice, but it is much easier than the regrets after abortion, or the medical consequences. One thing you should keep in mind. If you don't have the money to pay for expensive medical care if you develop complications, you should not take such a risk. Complications are much more common than most people think.

If you let me know specifically what problems you would be facing with a pregnancy, I can help you find a better solution.

Please take care of yourself and stay safe. I am here if you need to talk further, and I'd love it if you would let me know what happens.

I can help women with the consideration of their decision, and with resources, and I can share my own experiences as the mother of seven and grandmother of eleven. My approach is to show love and concern, and help women work through the issues, emotional, spiritual, practical. I also help women deal with boyfriend and family issues. I am not a doctor, but I have done extensive medical research, so I may be able to help with information. I am female. When you write, if you are or were pregnant, please tell me how far along you were or are, and if you have had an abortion, please tell me what kind. Thank you.

Experience

I have been working with women who are considering abortion for several years. I also work with women who have had abortions. Our family has also experienced adoption, so I can talk about that as well.

Education/Credentials
I am mostly self-taught. I also studied midwifery for awhile. I have spent years doing research on this topic. In fact, I have been doing research and working in this area since the early 1970's. I have been helping women online for a few years, under the guidance of a woman who was formally training in counseling.
