QUESTION: Hi there,

I had a medical abortion on 24rth april 2011. I used two cycotec tabs and it started to bleed. A thick clot came out the same evening. After five days i felt another big clot clinging inside, i took two more cycotec tabs and that removed the other clot. I coninued to pass clots alongwith the bleeding. Now there are no clots, two days back i had some yellowish spots, the bleeding almost stopped but started all of a sudden again. now its about one month what should i do as bleeding is not stopping.
is it normal?

ANSWER: Hi Jennifer,
After an abortion periods tend to be irregular and unpredictable for a considerable time.
There are no safe days either.
If you start the contraceptive pill periods are regular earlier.
If you feel dizzy because of the bleeding you need to see your OBGYN doc, for an ultrasound.
But normally it  stops by itself.
You need patience and contraceptives.

QUESTION: Dear Dr Shan,

Is it okay for me to have a urine test instead of an ultrasound. Today i had a blocked nose, fever less than 100 degrees. Pain and clotting in the blood. Do u suggest any medicine for controlling infection, also recommend me a medicine which gives me strength and nutrition.

How long they will my bleeding is likely to last, also tell me some good contraceptives. Will the use of contraceptive increase my bleeding.

ANSWER: The problem is that intra uterine rests should be excluded. That can only be done by US.
A urinetest shows nothing about that problem.

The US seems posotive. What now. is there any option besides D&C.

Dear Jennifer,
If there are rests after an abortion, they come out at the time of the next period.(which, as I told you  is unsure). Also when you take 4 cytotec in your cheek.
No D&C needed; a suction curettage will do.
