Abortion/Is there any way manual aspiration missed

Question
I can't believe I had the abortion I didn't want. It;s like once I walked into the facility, it was already final. I can't believe I didn;t run screaming and save the baby that I always loved and wanted even when I first got the shocking discovery of the pregnancy.
I know I'm reaching, but is there any possibility the doctor missed and the follow-up ultrasound didn't see the baby? Maybe he's still alive?
The doctor said I was 6 weeks and 4 days - meaning likely 4 weeks since conception.
I just need the baby to be ok. I don't want to accept that he's gone and it's because I couldn't find the words or the courage to stand up for him.

Answer
Dear Haley,

I'm so sorry! My heart breaks for you! They know exactly how to railroad a woman into abortion. They never try to determine if she really wants one. If they did, they'd lose a lot of sales. It's all about the money.

There is a possibility the baby is still alive. It's not common, but it does happen.

You could use a hug and some counseling, and it would be good to check and make sure one way or the other, concerning your baby. There are organizations in Pennsylvania that can help you with all of this. To find one near you, please go to this web site:

At the moment, things are totally crazy around here. I would like to write more to you about all of this when things quiet down a bit. Please know that you are in my heart and prayers. I'll write more later. Take care.

Expertise

I can help women with the consideration of their decision, and with resources, and I can share my own experiences as the mother of seven and grandmother of eleven. My approach is to show love and concern, and help women work through the issues, emotional, spiritual, practical. I also help women deal with boyfriend and family issues. I am not a doctor, but I have done extensive medical research, so I may be able to help with information. I am female. When you write, if you are or were pregnant, please tell me how far along you were or are, and if you have had an abortion, please tell me what kind. Thank you.

Experience

I have been working with women who are considering abortion for several years. I also work with women who have had abortions. Our family has also experienced adoption, so I can talk about that as well.

Education/Credentials
I am mostly self-taught. I also studied midwifery for awhile. I have spent years doing research on this topic. In fact, I have been doing research and working in this area since the early 1970's. I have been helping women online for a few years, under the guidance of a woman who was formally training in counseling.
