Question
I had an abortion about a month and a half ago. I didn't feel right after, still felt pregnant. I went back to the doc for my checkup and he said he missed it. I had to do the procedure again. I did. It was terrible. Well, I went for my check up on that yesterday and now he's saying he has to do it AGAIN! Something about it looking like I'm full of clots. I don't know what to do. I'm scared.

Answer
Hello, jane,

It sounds like you found yourself a quack. There are two possibilities, both bad. Either he's incompetent, or he deliberately left some material so he could sell you two abortions. You need to get away from him!

Find a decent doctor and let him take a look. You need a doctor who knows that abortion is unethical and bad medicine. You won't get a straight answer from the abortionist. He just wants your money, and doesn't care about you. I don't know if he charged you again, but either way, he was after your money. Quite often the people who do abortions are at the bottom of the medical class at the university. The other students make fun of them because they don't get good grades and they're incompetent. That's the reality of who is doing the abortions. And in some cases, the person who is doing the abortion isn't even a doctor and never has been. I would argue that anybody who repudiates medical ethics no longer has a right to call himself a doctor.

Ask around and find out who the good doctors are. La Leche League members can often tell you. Also, there are organizations in Florida that help pregnant women, and they have doctors affiliated with them. You can get a referral. To find an organization near you, please go to this web site:

Whatever you do, don't ever have an abortion again. You have learned what they are really like, and you deserve better. Please take care and let me know how you do.

Expertise

I can help women with the consideration of their decision, and with resources, and I can share my own experiences as the mother of seven and grandmother of eleven. My approach is to show love and concern, and help women work through the issues, emotional, spiritual, practical. I also help women deal with boyfriend and family issues. I am not a doctor, but I have done extensive medical research, so I may be able to help with information. I am female. When you write, if you are or were pregnant, please tell me how far along you were or are, and if you have had an abortion, please tell me what kind. Thank you.

Experience

I have been working with women who are considering abortion for several years. I also work with women who have had abortions. Our family has also experienced adoption, so I can talk about that as well.

Education/Credentials
I am mostly self-taught. I also studied midwifery for awhile. I have spent years doing research on this topic. In fact, I have been doing research and working in this area since the early 1970's. I have been helping women online for a few years, under the guidance of a woman who was formally training in counseling.
