Abortion/Bleeding after abortion

Question
I had a medical abortion on 12/30.  I took the misoprostol on 12/31/11.  On my sheet from Planned Parenthood it said to wait 7 days before having sex.
I hadn't been bleeding since the 6th day, so on the 7th day I had sex.  I did bleed a little the next day.
On the 8th day I had sex 3 times.  Two days later I started to have heavy bleeding, and clots.  I called Planned Parenthood and she said we aren't supposed to have anything in the vagina until our follow up appointment.
It is 14 days since my abortion, and the last 3 I have had very heavy bleeding.  It's been constant.  My pads are bloody, but not soaking.  Most comes out when I use the bathroom.  There has not been one time there wasn't bright red blood coming out over these last 3 days.  I called PPHood again and they said this is normal and not to worry, just come to the follow up exam. I sometimes have cramping but it's not constant.
My follow up is in 7 days.
Is this normal?  Did I have sex too soon, and did that cause this?

Answer
This sounds very normal.  Having sex causes the uterus to contract.  So your are just passing any blood or uterine lining that is left.  As long as you are not passing clots larger than a quarter or soaking more than 1 pad in an hour, this is seems normal.  Do not worry.  i would hold off on having any more sexual contact.  You can take Ibuprofen 400-800mg ever 6 hours if you are experiencing any cramping.  Cramping is a normal response.
