Abortion/Pregnancy after medical abortion

Question
Hi there,

I have recently had a medical abortion with Mifepristone. My last period was on 17th December 2011 and I found out I was pregnant when my period was 2 days late. I decided to take immediate action and on the 20th January 2012 I started the process of medical abortion. I was first given 1 pill on the 20th and then had to take another 2 + 2 pills (within a space of 2 hours) on the 22nd January. I saw the doctor on the 23rd January and he perscribed me with Methergin tablets which I took from 23rd to 29th January (On the 29th January I stopped bleeding). The doctor checked me and said everything seemed fine and the pregnancy termination was successful.

What is worrying me however is that I stupidly had unprotected sex the day before I started the medical abortion procedure (on the 19th January). My boyfriend didn't ejaculate into me but we had unprotected sex. I am worried that there is a chance that I may have gotten pregnant again as i read that you should not have sex 2 weeks after the medical abortion. I should point out that what got me pregnant in the first place was not the fact that my boyfriend ejaculated into me but also we had unprotected sex, shortly before using the condom...I should also note that we did also have sex (using a condom), between 22 and 25th January and we were definitely careful on those days.

I am very worried and stressed about this as obviously i don't want to go through the whole situation again. Can you please
tell me

1)what the chances I may have gotten pregnant again?
2)if i did get pregnant straight after using medical abortion and decided to keep the baby - would there be birth defects?
3) How safe is it to use medical abortion twice within a space 1-2 months?

Thank you for your help,

I really appreciate any advice you can give me!!

Regards,

Sara

Answer
Do not worry.  You are not pregnant. I advise you to use a reliable form of birth control and make sure you are ready to conceive and have a child. You can use the medical abortion with safety as many times as you have to.  There are no long term effects.
