I HAD AN ABORTION ABOUT 7WEEKS AGO (NOVEMBER3,2007) HOWEVER SOON AFTER I HAD UNPROTECTED SEX SEVERAL TIMES UP UNTIL JANUARY 2,2007 WE USED THE PULL OUT METHOD I WAS A LITTLE CONCERNED NOT HAVING MY PERIOD BY NOW SO I TOOK AN OVER THE COUNTER PREGNANCY TEST AND IT WAS NEGATIVE IS IT NORMAL FOR ME STILL NOT TO HAVE A PERIOD I HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY IRRESPONSIBLE PLEASE HELP ME WITH ANSWERS TO MY PROBLEM

Answer
Dear Angel,
Delayed periods are common and normal after an abortion.  Sometimes it can take 2-3 months to get a period.  The only concern would be if you got pregnant again.  If the pregnancy test was negative, it sounds like you are fine.  A pregnancy test turns positive about 10 days after unprotected sex.  If you don't bleed in a week, you should check another test.  I hope this is helpful,
Doctor Joan
