Abortion/Bleeding after a medical Abortion

Question
I had a medical abortion, starting on Dec.4 (first set of pills). It has been a
week since and I past a bottle cap sized clot today. Is this normal. I thought
the past two days the bleeding had tapered off to a lighter period, but then
today it was heavier and I am cramping a bit. My question is,is this normal to
have sporadic/varying degrees of bleeding. Also, I had a work dinner and we
had some wine. I know that can thin your blood and cause you to bleed more.
I also took a Goody powder without thinking this morning for backache. Do
you think this is what has caused my bleeding to become heavier today? Or
should I be worried. I am not soaking through pads, but i am still worried.
Thanks

Answer
Dear Layne,
Irregular bleeding after a medical abortion is completely normal.  You can stop and start, pass clots, bleed daily.  This irregular bleeding can last for months with no concern.  This is all normal.  You should get your normal period back in the next months. There is no problem drinking wine, or other medications.
I hope this is helpful,
Doctor Joan
