Answer
A blighted ovum basically mean everything occurred without a baby present, so the placenta grew and your body thought it was pregnant.  It is the most common reason for miscarriages in the first trimester (about 50%).  Usually the cause is that the woman's body recognizes abnormal chromosomes in the fetus and does not support it.  Normally the body just has a miscarriage but sometimes the abortion or D&C is used for a number of reasons.  Usually a couple only sees this once, but there isn't much you can do to prevent it.  Also, wait until your period is regular 1-3 times before trying to conceive again.  Hope that information helped.
