Question
Hello!  I have had 2 surgical abortions, one 5 years ago, I was 12 weeks along.  2 weeks after that one, the pregnancy test was negative.  I had the 2nd abortion 4 weeks ago today and was only 5 weeks along.  The pregnancy test is still coming back positive.  Why would the hormones stay in my system so much longer this time vs when I was further along? I had both an abdominal and intravaginal ultrasound and they said there was nothing to worry about - that was last week. Right after that I had an IUD placed. I am not really sure what my question is, I am just concerned...  Please advise.  Thank you!

Answer
Honestly, the human body is quite a mystery even to the most knowledgeable doctors.  Your body may just be reacting differently due to age or a number of reasons.  Don't panic, but there could be a chance that if the fetus was not completely removed, your body may still think it is pregnant.  However, I would think the ultrasound would have picked that up.  I know some women due have this reaction and one noticeable other reaction is lactation.  If you do have concerns, don't hesitate to see a doctor.
