Question
I had an abortion Wednesday morning a since I did not bleed, and had no pain I irresponsibly had sex with my boyfriend Saturday morning.He did not ejaculate inside of me. What are the risks? The clinic said I only had to wait 3 days before using a tampon and 7 days before sex. I went to LoveJoy SurgiCenter in Portland Oregon.

Hi Nichole,

Thanks for your question. I'm not a medical doctor so please check with your regular physician about this and any medical questions you might have. Yes, you are right that you should not have had sex so soon after an abortion. Your body needs to heal. What I've read is that your cervix needs to close back up and no bacteria should get inside your uterus and cause infection. Also, some recommend that you not have sex until you stop bleeding.
