Diane, Hi. My name is Hilary. I was on the Depo-Provera shot in June I got it June 13th. I was going to go back this Monday August 13th for another one. Well, my doctor suggested that I take a home pregnancy test and then go in to get it. The test was positive. My boyfriend and I can't believe that I got pregnant when I was on the Depo-Provera shot... is this common? Also, Last time I ended my last period was June 19th. I haven't seen my period since and you dont when you are on the Depo-Provera shot so it's hard to tell how far along I am. I want to know if I would be given the abortion pill? Or will I have surgery? And whatever it might be, a couple of my friends that I confide all my trust in told me that they heard/read that after an abortion there is an 80% chance that it will be hard for me to ever get pregnant again. Is this true? Because I want to have children, I am just too young right now to have one and I want to be married or at least engaged before I become pregnant again. Thank you so much.

Thanks for your question. I've been on vacation so I'm kind of behind on answering emails and questions so I hope you haven't been waiting too long. I will have to do some research about the statistics on future pregnancies after abortion. Yes, it is possible to get pregnant on the depo-provera shot but I wouldn't say it is very common. I can also give you more information about surgical abortion and the abortion pill.
