Question
hi, i had a termination 4 weeks ago at a private clinic.i had a suction proceedure with no anastetic.i had a few spots of blood the day after but nothing after that.after 3 weeks i starting vomiting & had brest tenderness so i did a pregnancy test & it was positive.i was sent to the hospital by my gp & they did an internal scan & to my shock they told me that there was a viable pregnancy still there.they said there was the pregnancy sack & inside they found a heart beat.i have to go back in 10 days for another scan to make sure everything is ok.what is the harm if any to the baby will it have any birth defects as they said that it shoudnt as the pregnancy sack is still intacked.

Answer
Dear Joanna,
The general understanding in the medical literature is that if a pregnancy continues after a suction procedure, there should not be any damage to the pregnancy itself. If you want to continue the pregnancy, it would be good to get a second opinion from an OB GYN doctor you would go to for prenatal care.  You are also still early to end the pregnancy if you choose.
I hope this is helpful.  Good luck with your difficult decision.
Doctor Joan
