Question
QUESTION: I had an aspiration procedure on November second, then i was bleeding for almost a week, not so heavy like the doctor told me i would. On November 17th i went on a trip in a plane and as soon as i get out i started to pass cloths, which was annoying because was my first time having sex again after the procedure. Now i am going on a trip again and i am starting to feel some annoying cramps and back pain, no blood but i see some discharge like egg white, but no smell or irritation. I want to know if the bleeding i had was my period or if i should get one now?since i am in a long distance relationship i have to travel to see my boyfriend but it seems like i get stressed out in the airplane and i start to spot? hope i don't get my period now...

ANSWER: Dear Eromil,
Irregular bleeding, spotting, and passing clots is all normal after an aspiration procedure or D&C. There is no way to know if the bleeding you had was your period.  Your period will be back to normal in the next 2 months.  If the clots and cramps continue past a month, you should get checked.
I am pleased to hear that you were able to find a place that offered the aspiration procedure.  It is the most safe and natural method to end early pregnancy, yet most women don't know about it, and it is very difficult to find doctors and facilities who perform it. Some clinics who do the aspiration procedure do it just like a surgical abortion (with scraping and general anesthesia) where there are fewer advantages to the procedure. If you ever need a good referral for a friend: Earlyabortion.com is the best resource for finding doctors who perform the aspiration procedure in the safest way that it should be performed.   I'm curious to know what city you are in, and if it was performed at a clinic or a doctor's office.
I hope this is helpful,
Doctor Joan

QUESTION: Thank you doctor, actually i have a 17 year old soon form my first marriage, and i had my son really young (i was 16) and i thought i would never end a pregnancy.I found this website in NY, Manhattan,earlyoptions.com and they were really caring and professional, The doctor was in a private small office and i was 5 weeks pregnant. The procedure lasted no more than 15 minutes and i only felt a heavy pain for 2 minutes,I was emotionally very sad,but was the correct choice because my boyfriend and i are not in great terms. They were very concerned about me being depressed or disturbed since i was crying a lot in the end,for the choice i made. But i felt better by the end of the day i went dinner and i know God forgive me for this action, but is not so bad.The manual aspiration was very safe and i had no complications, just FOLLOW HER INSTUCTIONS,TAKE THE ANTIBIOTICS AND DO NOT HAVE SEX OR USE ANYTHING LIKE TAMPOMS FOR 2 WEEK.I am glad that i chose that doctor's office it made this dificult decision easy to deal with. Also i feel that my cramps now are more like when i knew that i was ovulating, like a light cramp 10 days after when i used to get my period. Do you think what i am feeling now is because of that? some doctors say you start to release an egg 3 weeks after the procedure. Thanks

Answer
Dear Eromil - you came to my office!  I started Early Options and we have two offices - one in Manhattan and one in Brooklyn.  I am so happy to hear you found us and had a positive experience.  We are trying to make these services available to every woman, so they don't have to go through a negative clinic experience or get invasive procedures that aren't necessary.
The period-like cramps sound completely normal, but you can always call our office to talk to someone.  Dina is the best to help you.
Good luck, and I'm glad you are now feeling like you made the right choices,
Dr. Joan
