Dr.Joan,

I have had 5 abortions, the last time I was 2.5 months pregnant, I had them put in the IUD.  5 months ago I asked my family doctor to remove it, because my boyfriend and I were ready to have a baby.  I've had nothing but problems getting pregnant, I have a four year old son now, and never had problems before getting pregnant.  Do you think my chances of getting pregnant are slim, due to the abortions?

Dear Tarah,
So far, I wouldn't be concerned about getting pregnant.  Sometimes it can just take time, even up to a year or more.  If you have been having periods since your last abortion, and have not had any infections, there is no reason to be concerned.  Give it some more time.  If you have not gotten pregnant in a year of trying, I would get a check up.
