Hello,
I would like to know if I can have an abortion. I'm only about 6 weeks pregnant and I was wondering about how an abortion is done at 6 weeks.

Hi Esther,
Thank you for your question and I hope this information will help you. First of all, have you confirmed your pregnancy with a pregnancy test? You can go to http://www.optionline.org to find a free pregnancy testing and help center in your area. You might qualify for a medical abortion using RU486- Mifepristone. This abortion would usually be done 4-7 weeks after your last menstrual period. This procedure usually requires three office visits. The RU 486 or mifepristone pills are given to you and you return two days later for a second medication called misoprostol. The combination of these medications causes the uterus to expel the fetus. There is risk to this type of abortion so I urge you to do as much research as possible. The other 2 procedures in your case would probably be Suction Curettage or Vacuum Aspiration. Both of these procedures also have risks and side effects.
