Education/Credentials I have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Biology, and am halfway through a Master's Degree, also in Biology. I have access to and read many of the top medical journals, from which I also get the best, most thorough and accurate to answers to pressing medical and health related questions. This equips me with factual, biological information to dispel many myths related to abortion.

Question QUESTION: I notice how you didn't respond to my "innocent until proven guilty" concept. I also notice how you keep going back to all the natural causes of "embryo" death and how, since I am not speaking out against that, I do not care about the "embryos" actually dying. The key here is "natural" death. To a certain extent, nothing can be done about death by natural causes. For example, many, many people die of old age yearly, but no one will say that those who do not demand medical research into the causes of those deaths don't care at all. We can't prevent, again, to a certain degree, miscarriages, but we definitely can prevent abortions.
You are absolutely right when you say that an "embryo" is not a baby just because I say it is; however, the reverse could also be said. Again, would you rather risk a major inconvenience, or the death of a baby?
I'll go ahead and add that abortion is not healthy for society as a whole. Have you ever heard of the social security crisis? Well, though it would not prevent it, having those several million more taxpayers that we don't have now because of all the abortions would certainly have helped the situation. Any comments?
ANSWER: Dear Adam,
I'm not really sure what you mean by the "innocent until proven guilty" concept. I'd be glad to respond if you could explain more fully for me.
Here is the bottom line:
Abortions have always been a part of human civilization. They have been occurring since mankind has existed. Women who have unwanted pregnancies simply will not be forced to continue them, regardless of how you or anyone else feels about it. Since women are human beings, they have the right to control their own bodies. What goes on inside of a woman's vagina and uterus is none of your business.
The reason most civilized societies have legalized abortion is because they understand these facts. No person has the right to interfere with what goes in in another person's body. If you do not like abortion, don't get anyone pregnant. Since you will never know what it feels like to have an unwanted pregnancy, you will probably never fully understand how strongly women feel about this issue.
Take care,
Deb

QUESTION: What I mean by "innocent until proven guilty" is this: the burden of proof is on you to show beyond a shadow of a doubt to everyone who disagrees that life begins at birth. I don't have to prove anything, since the life of a baby is at stake. I know that what I'm about to say will come across as extremely harsh, but I'll go ahead and say it anyway. Frankly, I don't care how strongly you or other pro-choice women feel about this issue, because their lives aren't the ones at stake. And again, it is a baby's life at stake until you can prove to me, medically and logically, that life begins at or after birth.
You are absolutely correct when you say that what goes on inside of a woman's uterus is none of my business. However, it is only solely her business until it begins to affect other people. Abortion affects other people.
This just occurred to me. Your definition of an organism in your first response doesn't work because the baby isn't a part of the woman's body. The baby is attached, much like a leech. (Please don't misinterpret that last statement; it's just an analogy.) And how strict do you want to get with your definition of dependence? My 4-year-old brother is still very much dependent on my parents for survival, but he is very much alive. The fact that an unborn infant is dependent on the mother through the umbilical cord seems like an insignificant difference to me.
This is getting somewhat lengthy, so I'll end it with this: abortion involves the death of a baby. It doesn't matter what you think about the rights of the woman, her child's life is at stake. And until you can PROVE otherwise, to everyone involved, abortion should be banned. You have to prove to me that life begins at birth, or life begins at conception by default, simply because of the risk factor.
Answer Dear Adam,
The burden of proof lies with you, because you are the one trying to take rights away from me, and not the other way around. Whether a person believes an embryo is a baby or not is a matter of opinion. This is why Roe passed the muster of the Supreme Court. When life begins is in the eye of the beholder.
The argument over what the embryo is or is not is moot anyway. Even if you feel that the embryo is a person, no person can use another person's body against that person's will. See Shimp Vs. McFall: http://people.brandeis.edu/~teuber/lawmcfall1.html
It doesn't matter what you or I mean by dependence or any other definitions. What matters is the bodily integrity of people. It is a fundamental right that people have control over and privacy regarding their own physical person.
I am curious why you feel s strongly about this. An embryo is literally a tiny unit of cells. It cannot feel, suffer, or anything else. Yet grown women can suffer immensely. Why are you so angry with women who have abortions? Try to answer me as honestly as you can.
