AboutDanielle Expertise I can answer questions regarding medical and surgical abortion, questions about abortion in general, like moral and religious issues concerning the procedure. I'm happy to answer questions, have discussions, and provide further information, like pro-choice websites and organizations.
Experience I have people close to me who have gotten abortions, I know the current abortion issues, and I have researched abortion in depth for a long time.
Question Hi. I have two questions. The first one is will it hurt if I get an abortion? And the second one is is it true that if a woman has had more than one abortion it will do damage to her body? I hear a lot of people(even those who are pro choice) say that. Thanks.

Answer Hi Lacey :)
The pain depends on the woman. With a medical abortion, some say it hurts no more than a heavy period, and some say the pain is almost intolerable. With the surgical procedure, if you don't have anesthesia, you can feel very intense cramping for 3-5 minutes. With anesthesia, it is common that you will not be put asleep, but that you will feel "high", and the pain won't bother you. If you'd like, there's a really great community on livejournal about women's experiences with abortion, and it's a completely safe space community-no negativity, no judgement. Many women have shared their experiences with medical and surgical abortions that you can find in the memory section.
The abortion doesn't damage your body. Illegal, unsafe abortions definitely can. But performed legally and by a doctor side effects are extremely rare. The procedure is safer than getting your wisdom teeth pulled.
