Question
Hello. I'm a freshmen in high school who has a debate project on abortion.  I have a few questions.
1) What are some emotional feeling of the women before and after they had an abortion?
2) How many women who had an abortion victims of rape?
and
3) What are some main pro-life arguments?

Answer
I will answer you well, I hope.  First of all, being a man, I cannot understand fully what a woman feels, but it would be untrue to state that I cannot understand at least some of the feelings.
It seems to me one feeling a women, post-abortion, would feel regret.  Even a well-intentioned person making what he/she feels is the best choice in a matter can understand that he/she may have not acted in the best interest of others, in this case the unborn child.  Another emotion would be sadness, knowing that she will not experience the life of that child, nor will that child experience life.
Regarding your second question, I have been told that very few women who are raped become pregnant.  I have heard this is partly a hormonal phenomenon.  Please review that further to get clarification.  Some who are victims of rape may get pregnant though.
On your third question, the main argument, pro-life, is that the child has a right to live.  Related to that is that the baby can be given up for adoption.  There are thousands of people who would love to become parents who cannot naturally conceive, and there are others who simply want to provide love and nurturing to a child, even though they already have children of their own.
Another argument is that having a baby, rather than terminating a pregnancy, is unselfish.  It is allowing another human being to come into the world, regardless of whether or not the biological parents are going to raise him or her or if someone else will.
Another point is that the child may grow up to be a valuable member of society, in that he or she may be instrumental as an adult in helping to develop a treatment or a cure for a disease, or the individual may end up doing great humanitarian work overseas or in the inner cities, or end up being a great diplomat or political leader.
I hope some of this helps you toward your research and toward your debate.
