Question
I have been with my husband for 19 years married for 8, we have 4 children . We are separated, have been for 4 years. I filed for divorce because of noncommittment and nonconsistency to our life. He denies the truth, does not want to face life issues to better our life. He has abused us mentally, emotionally, verbally, and a couple times physically. I just want out now. I do not want the rest of my life to be like this. I am a christian and so is he but does not act like it. I moved away from him because of his abuse to me and the children, he will not sign the divorce papers also he suppplies my income, i cannot work due to physical limitations. I do not to live with resentment, hate , distrust. He does not show love, care, compassion, affection he says he does but i dont receive it, he had beat my heart down so bad that i dont have anything left to give him and i dont want to anymore. I wish he would move far away and leave me alone. if you need more information please ask. thank you

Answer
Dear Lana,
My heart goes out to you.  It sounds like such a difficult situation, however to have separated was probably a good move.  I would be happy to respond, however I'm not sure what your question is.  Please let me know how I can help you and I will respond as soon as possible.

Expertise

I can answer questions regarding emotional and physical abuse in dating and marriage situations, however I am unable to give legal advice. Having had firsthand experience in an abusive relationship, I understand the feelings, the questions and the doubts we have as we try to make decisions about how to improve our situations. I am also able to address spiritual concerns regarding staying in or leaving these types of situations.

Experience

Having been a victim of emotional abuse for many years and having family members who were in violent abuse situations, I have personal experience on many levels. I have since gone on to become a professional counselor and work with abused women.
