Question
I am a online student and for my COM112 class we have to write a report. My report is about domestic violence. I am trying to find eithes some stastitics on survivors or some opinions/experience on domestic violence. I have gotten a lot of information off the net. Still do not have a lot of survivor stastitics though. I know there are some as my sister was abused and he left with her two sons and they all survived. Its just hard finding it on the net. If you can give me some advice or help. I would appreciate it, thanks

Answer
I recently borrowed an interesting book from the library on Family Violence. According to the book, domestic violence can come in two forms:

1.Physical-Hitting someone.
2.Emotional-Saying something that makes one feel worthless, sad, or hurt.

There are many reasons for domestic violence. The abuser may have had a history of being a victim of abuse, or may be on drugs, desire for power, mental problems, or for no apparent reason.

If you're looking for experience, I am abused emotionally and physically by my own family. They say things to me that make me feel bad and worthless, and sometimes they even hit me. Yet despite what they've done to me over the years, they actually claim that I've developed an attitude problem for absolutely no reason! They also refuse to respect my independance. These are all examples of abuse committed against me by the family.

This is all the info I can give you, but there are other sources where you can get information. Do you have a friend who was a victim of abuse? Or another family member? The internet and other books from your library can give you more information than I ever could.
