Question
QUESTION: Hello Mike,
I work for a small company and the payroll is done inhouse. We get a weekly paycheck, actual check. The paystub does not have the company name on it. I was wondering if that is allowable. Let's say you need to show someone a paystub for proof of income or something like that would the sub be valid proof without a company name on it?
Thank you,
Shelley

ANSWER: it is up to each state what is required on the Pay Statements provided to employees.

I have a list of the state requirements, if you wish to tell me which state you are employed in I will send you the state requirements for your state.

QUESTION: Hi Shirley,
I work in NY.  Thanks for your help.
Happy Valentine's Day.

Shelley

Answer
Happy Valentines Day to you also..I hope it is a good one.

New York does not require the company name.

New York requires Gross and Net earnings, deductions, explanation of wage computation if requested.

At least they have some provisions, some state have no provisions at all. In our state of Idaho you are only required to have the itemized deductions on the check stub.

You could talk to your payroll department and see if they could add the company name on.  I just went in the system and added ours on last year at an employee's request.

If not if you need it for proof of wages you could have the payroll department write you a letter.
