Question Im 50 years old collecting SSI. I started a 401K plan in 1982-1989 at Bud Schmidt Buick Inc. company closed no 401K no letter receipt -- need info to find my money
Answer First you need to start with the business where you started the 401K. They should have sent out letters to you each quarter and once a year telling you what is in your account.
If they were unable to get those letters to you than the amount stays in the account and it is charged fees until you take it out so it could be eaten up with fees. If it is under a certain amount and you did not contact the company to roll it over to an IRA or an outside account it may have been forfeited after a certain amount of time.
You would need to contact that company to find out what happened to the 401K funds.
