Question For some reason I am completely confused as to work out how to do the following...
We have a member of staff who works 35hrs/week 140hrs/month on a salary of £16,500. We are reducing their working hours to 31.5hrs/week 126hrs/month and I can't for the life of me workout the salary reduction/annual leave entitlement (originally 25 days and bank holidays) reduction?
Hope you can help!
Answer I am assuming that you are in the UK. When a worker in UK works irregular hours the annual leave is reflected on an average week's working hours. If a part time worker's working hours is expressed in hours than the leave can be expressed in hours also.
The 31.5 a week person would be eligible for 31.5 X 4 or 126 hours a year for annual leave.
The holiday leave includes paid time taken for public holidays which are also called bank holidays or customary days.
There is actually no current statutory entitlement to bank and public holidays other than for employees in a bank services sector. They are simply days where a worker may receive leave under the terms of their contract as with other contractual leave, can be used to discharge an employer's responsibility to allow at least four weeks leave would include any time given for bank or public holiday.
The employer must allow the employee to leave also in the following circumstances:
Jury duty, Court attendance, Police interview, parental leave (as per the parental leave laws) and family or emergency (as per the family or emergency leave laws) and trade Union or Civil duty.
Sickness, maternity , paternity and adoption have very specific entitlements under separate laws. For those laws you must let them go and you must pay them according to each specific law.
