Question
MY husband and i divorced 2 years ago and he is ready to retire from the police force. Hes 42 and im 37. I am owed 1/2 of his pension for 7.5 years . Do i only collect when im at retirement age, or does it start immediately following his retirement?
Thanks you

Answer
It depends on the wording in the papers that were signed when you divorced. The specific document is a Qualified Domestic Relations Order.

In most cases you will receive your pension when he starts to receive his. However, this may not be the case. I would check with the Plan Administrator for his plan.
